Types of hearing loss

It's important to know your hearing loss type and degree of loss.
​
Hearing loss is typically divided into two categories: conductive hearing loss and sensorineural hearing loss. You can also have a mixed hearing loss, which is a combination of the two.
​

Types of hearing aids
Hearing aids are either in the ear or behind the ear.
​
In-the-ear hearing aids (ITE) sit in the ear canal. There is also the completely-in-canal (CIC) hearing aid, which sits invisibly in your ear. These hearing aids are custom-fit to your ear and are suitable for low to moderately severe hearing loss.
​
Behind-the-ear hearing aids (BTE) come in three types: A standard BTE hearing aid with its receiver behind the ear, a receiver-in-the-ear (RITE) hearing aid, and a receiver-in-canal (RIC) hearing aid. BTEs are suitable for almost all types of hearing loss.
Listening enviornments

Hearing aids are available in different levels of technology. Before choosing a hearing aid, consider the listening environments you find most troublesome. There are also apps and accessories available to help you with connecting to your phone, TV, and other devices.
​
Hearing aids can also be programmed to adapt to your environment and provide natural sound quality. They even help make children’s voices and birds, audible again and can reduce unwanted sounds.
